The main opposition coalition in Chad, Wakit Tama, is again hit by justice. Its coordinator, lawyer Max Loalngar, has been charged and imprisoned, bringing to 6 the number of platform leaders who are behind bars for disturbing public order.
« Me Max Loalngar, coordinator of Wakit Tamma is charged for the same reasons as the five others and placed under a warrant of committal and referred to the Klessoum remand center », suggested the public prosecutor near the high court instance of N’Djamena, Moussa Wade Djibrine. Their trial is set for June 6.
Wakit Tama had organized a demonstration against France on Saturday, May 14, accusing it of supporting the military junta which had seized power after the death of Marshal Idriss Déby Itno in April 2021.
Three days later, five leaders of the coalition were placed under warrant of arrest and imprisoned, for “crowd having caused disturbances with the public order, attack with the bodily integrity of people, fire and destruction of goods”.
“Acts of vandalism” would have been committed, among other things, according to the authorities during the demonstration. But for the coalition, these acts would have taken place after the march; she refuses to be responsible for it.
The platform also accuses the police of not having intervened during the vandalization of the stations of the French group Total, which took place after the demonstration. This passivity on the part of the police would aim to put the responsibility on the coalition, she suspects.
In the meantime, Waki Tama does not intend to give up, but intends to continue his protests against French policy in Chad.
