Suriname opens an embassy in Rabat and a consulate general in Dakhla

The Republic of Suriname has opened an embassy in Rabat as well as a consulate general in Dakhla, bringing to 13 the number of operational consulates in this city in southern Morocco.

The embassy was opened on Wednesday during a ceremony chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita.

This Thursday, May 26, the Surinamese Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and International Cooperation, Albert Ramdin and the Governor of the province of Aousserd, Abderrahaman El Jaouhari cut the ribbon and unveiled the plaque of the diplomatic representation, in the city of Dakhla, during a ceremony which recorded the presence of many elected officials and consuls accredited to Dakhla.

The Surinamese state has thus extended the list of countries supporting Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara and all of its territory. The day before, Albert Ramdin, displayed in Rabat, during a press briefing, « his country’s full support » for the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara, as the sole basis for a political solution to the Sahara conflict. Through the presence of these diplomatic representations, Suriname and Morocco have also shown the will to strengthen their relations and their cooperation in various fields.

The southern provinces now have 25 operational consulates general, including 12 in Laâyoune.
