According to a poll conducted by the American social research agency Geopoll and the results of which were published on Wednesday, the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Félix Tshisekedi, would be the big favorite in the presidential election of 2023 .
Good news for this head of state who has already confirmed his candidacy for a second term, showing himself unfazed even in the face of criticism from his former allies, calling him incompetent.
The US survey targeted 33 cities and 145 territories, in different regions across the country, from June 28 to July 25, 2022, and affected a sample of more than 10,000 people.
“Just over half of those polled express their willingness to grant President Tshisekedi a second term, while a third say they have no intention of voting for another candidate,” the report states.
The match will probably not be tight with its potential big competitors (Martin Fayulu, Moïse Katumbi and ex-president Joseph Kabila), insofar as none of them has reached the 20% popularity threshold, stick to the report.
A year and a few months later, several opponents have already announced their intention to embark on the race for the supreme magistracy.
This Wednesday, the political party Forces Socialistes Progressive (FSP), invited the Head of State to convene a forum for discussion on the organization of the elections to guarantee the smooth running of the electoral process.
“We humbly suggest to the President of the Republic, Head of State, symbol of national unity, to use his constitutional prerogatives to convene a framework for exchange on the electoral process which we have called Constructive electoral dialogue, ‘ DEC’ in acronym (…) It would be, in our opinion, the ideal passage to meet the necessary conditions, prior to the organization of the elections within the constitutional period, far from major disputes”, indicated the national president of FSP, John Omombo, during a press conference.
