The President of the Transition in Mali, Colonel Assimi Goïta, kicked off, Thursday, September 15 in Bamako, the activities of the National Week of Reconciliation (Senare), an event which will now be celebrated from September 15 to 21. .
The objective behind this initiative placed this year under the theme « Let us make diversity an asset for social cohesion in Mali », is to allow Malians to exchange with each other, restore peace and tolerance, strengthen cohesion social or to promote forgiveness.
“A week like the one we are launching at the moment is a godsend to chase away the demons of division and terror so that development prospects germinate, a factor of collective fulfillment,” Goïta said during the launch ceremony.
“It is therefore our duty, he continued, to create the conditions for a return to our secular values in order to reconcile the communities, to reconcile the State and the citizens, in short, to reconcile all the components of our country in order to bring about a more solid national unity, because it is anchored in the values of mutual listening and forgiveness. It is at this price that we could usefully direct our energies as well as our intelligence towards the real development of our nation”.
Senare should be marked by educational, sports, artistic and cultural activities, among others. The cost of all the activities planned during this week amounts to 200 million CFA francs.
Some voices are calling for an amnesty for political figures currently being prosecuted by the state or for the return of political exiles, to speak of a real national reconciliation.
