Soldiers were killed on Monday in an attack on a supply convoy for the populations of the town of Djibo (Soum province), which convoy was escorted by a unit of the 14th combined arms regiment, according to an army statement which did not did not communicate a precise assessment of the assault.

The general staff of the armies limited itself to evoking « human and material damage » caused by the attack. But other sources, remaining anonymous, spoke of at least ten soldiers killed and around thirty wounded.

Last weekend, at least two soldiers and two civilian army auxiliaries were killed in an attack on a patrol in the east of the country.

On September 13, eight soldiers were killed in an attack perpetrated by unidentified armed individuals, having targeted an army unit in the province of Oudalan, in the Sahel region.

The terrorists openly challenge the ruling military junta that overthrew Roch Marc Christian Kaboré in January. But the President of the Transition, Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, intends to win this fight.

On Sunday, the Burkinabè presidency announced the wish of Ouagadougou and Moscow to strengthen their bilateral cooperation, knowing that Burkina could seek help from Russia in its fight against terrorism. The presidency also announced the « commitment » made by the UN Secretary General, « to support the Burkinabè authorities » to help them face the security, humanitarian and even food challenges during the Transition.

These announcements were made after the talks that the President of the Transition had separately with the head of Russian diplomacy and the SG of the UN, at the United Nations headquarters, on the sidelines of the 77th General Assembly of the UN.

Since 2015, recurrent attacks in Burkina have killed thousands and displaced some two million people.
