On a visit to Senegal where he has started an African tour, the head of Ukrainian diplomacy, Dmytro Kuleba, hinted on Monday in Dakar that his country will do its best to come to the aid of the African continent in terms of food security, and this despite the conflict with Moscow, which has had repercussions on Ukrainian exports.
“However difficult our situation, we will do our best to continue to help Africa and other countries, in order to ensure food security throughout the world,” he said during the meeting. a press briefing with his Senegalese counterpart, Aïssata Tall Sall, after a one-on-one.
Dmytro Kuleba’s African diplomatic tour is no doubt aimed at attracting the continent’s interest in the Ukrainian cause. According to the words of this official, Kyiv will strive to strengthen its cooperative relations with Africa. It is “a great continent and I am convinced that the future belongs to Africa. We didn’t talk much in years past, but we’re going to correct that mistake, he said.
Ukraine’s foreign minister also praised his country for only focusing on development aspects, saying that « we have never imposed our will on other people, other peoples . We have always followed development-related interests.”
It should be recalled that at the start of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, many countries on the continent abstained during the vote at the UN to condemn Russia, including Senegal, which holds the presidency of the African Union.
On the occasion of the first leg of his tour, Dmytro Kuleba signed a memorandum of understanding with his Senegalese counterpart Aïssata Tall Sall for the strengthening of cooperation between their two countries. Kyiv and Dakar are aiming to expand their cooperation to other hitherto untapped areas.
