While the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) in Gabon has been going through a zone of turbulence in recent years, almost unable to promptly assume its obligations vis-à-vis its customers, the president of the employers’ association, Henri Claude Oyima, has estimated Monday, during an extraordinary meeting of the Federation of Gabonese Companies (FEG), that the privatization of the management of this organization is the solution to get it out of the situation it is going through.

“We are the ones who pay, we believe that we must manage this institution and that the State must remain in the role of regulator and controller of the action. All our employees who are retiring pose a problem, we companies, we are obliged to take care of them when they are retired, ”he hinted to his colleagues.

But on July 9, the National Association of Pensioners of Gabon (Anareg) questioned the President of the Republic, Ali Bongo, on the fact that « any idea of liquidation or transfer of the CNSS to third parties is to be avoided » .

The Association, which campaigns for the improvement of the living conditions of retirees, had urged the Head of State to « revive consultations between employers and unions by associating representative groups of retirees, so that suitable provisions and be put in place to perpetuate the CNSS institution, a common heritage for all workers, and beyond that, all Gabonese ».

For her part, she said she was ready to « contribute and participate effectively in the work of the various Committees or Commissions set up for the sustainable recovery of the Social Security Funds, to the happiness of current and future retirees on whom the payment depends. regular of the just pension ».

A few days before the media release of Anareg, the government had decided, in the Council of Ministers, to dissolve the Board of Directors of the CNSS and place the institution under provisional administration for one year, among other things.

The FEG, the most powerful employers’ organization in the country, brings together large companies as well as SMEs. Its members contribute 80% to the country’s GDP. Will she succeed in her claim relating to the CNSS? The decision rests with the government.
