The National Electoral Council in Equatorial Guinea announced, on Sunday evening, the first results of the presidential, municipal, legislative and senatorial elections, organized on the same day, which gave a large victory to the ruling party, the Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE ).

According to its president, Faustino Ndong Esono Ayang, “these results come from the 324 polling stations out of 2,972 polling stations in the country” and 67,196 people actually voted out of the 427,661 registered on the electoral lists.

“The PDGE candidate, Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, including his coalition, obtained 67,012 votes, or 99.7%, while Andrés Esono Ondó of CPDS (Convergence for Social Democracy) obtained 152 votes and Buenaventura Monsuy Asumu of the Social Democratic Coalition Party (PCSD), finds itself with 32 votes”, suggested the Electoral Council.

This situation is not in itself a surprise for certain observers who evoke programmed victories for Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. Already, the latter told the press, after his vote in Malabo, that he is sure that « the victory will go to the PDGE » who « has sown a lot and will reap what he sowed during these elections ».

On the opposition side, there is talk of fraud and irregularities. But these denunciations will certainly not change the course of events. Teodoro Obiang Nguema, 80, who has ruled his country with an iron fist for 43 years, holds the world record for longevity in power for a head of state, outside the monarchy.
