The leader of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum, was appointed current president of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), this Monday, December 5, replacing the Beninese president, Patrice Tallon.
The designation took place at the end of the 23rd ordinary session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government held in Abidjan, the Ivorian capital.
« We have decided unanimously to bring the President of the Republic of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum, to the presidency of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of WAEMU », and this « from now on », said the Ivorian President, Alassane Ouattara. WAEMU “is in very, very good hands,” he added.
Created in January 1994, this Union is made up of Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Mali, Guinea Bissau, Togo, Niger, Benin and Burkina Faso. The Conference of Heads of State and Government is the supreme body that defines the main policy guidelines for this West African space.
The Togolese Minister of Economy and Finance, Sani Yaya, also President of the Council of Ministers of the Union, indicated on Monday that the growth rate of gross domestic product in WAEMU is estimated at 5.7% in 2022. against 6.1% in 2021. As for the inflation rate, it should settle at 7.5% in 2022.
