South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has been reappointed as the head of the historical ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), according to an announcement made by this political formation on Monday during the conference of leaders of the African National Congress. in Johannesburg.

Ramaphosa obtained 2,476 votes against 1,897 for his only rival, Zweli Mkhize, during the vote carried out by the delegates of the party, who came from different corners of the country and gathered in congress last weekend in Johannesburg.

A great relief for the South African leader, entangled for several months in a corruption scandal which almost cost him his positions at the head of the country and at the head of the party. The ANC placed its trust in him doubly.

On December 13, the party prevented the adoption by Parliament of an impeachment procedure against Ramaphosa, thanks to its massive vote. The ANC has 230 deputies out of a total of 400 elected. This vote was initiated as part of a parliamentary report accusing the president of having concealed from justice a theft in the amount of $ 580,000 perpetrated in 2020 on a farm belonging to him.

A week later, the ANC decided to keep President Ramaphosa as its leader, paving the way for him to a second term, if the party emerges victorious in the 2024 general elections.
