The Malian authorities have decided to temporarily halt, until further notice, the export of cereals, due to the difficulties for the populations to obtain food supplies.
« Because of the difficulties in supplying the populations with foodstuffs, the government has decided to implement certain safeguard measures, including the suspension until further notice of the export and re-export of cereals on the entire extent of the national territory », says a circular published last week by the Director General of Customs, Amadou Konaté.
By this decision to no longer authorize the exit of cereals from the country, the government wants to guarantee the best supply for domestic demand.
The text instructs the regional directors of customs to transmit on a weekly basis, to the DG of Customs, the point of execution of the measure.
Several African countries have been in the grip of a food crisis since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
