The Senegalese will choose their next president on February 25, 2024, according to a press release from the Ministry of the Interior made public on Thursday February 16.

The Minister of the Interior, Antoine Félix Abdoulaye Diome, “informs Senegalese citizens and political actors that the date of the next presidential election is set for Sunday February 25, 2024 by decree dated February 16, 2023”, informs the document.

The announcement is made in a context where vagueness still reigns as to a possible third term for the outgoing president, which the opposition fiercely opposes. Macky Sall, elected in 2012 for seven years and re-elected in 2019 for five years, has not yet spoken with precision on the question.

Among the opponents who have already expressed their desire to embark on the race for the supreme magistracy is the leader of the Pastef party, Ousmane Sonko, who still has, however, problems with the justice system.
