The White House announced on Monday, March 13, an African tour by Vice President Kamala Harris, which will take her to Ghana, Tanzania and Zambia, between the end of March and the beginning of April; the objective being to strengthen partnerships on the African continent.

« This trip will strengthen U.S. partnerships in Africa and advance our common efforts for security and economic prosperity, » Vice President Kirsten Allen’s spokeswoman said.

Kamala Harris will stay March 26-29 in Ghana, March 29-31 in Tanzania and March 31-April 1 in Zambia.

On the program, it is, among other things, planned meetings with Heads of State, to « discuss regional and global priorities, in particular our shared commitment to democracy, inclusive and sustainable growth, food security “, explain the American authorities.

Interviews are also scheduled with “young leaders, business representatives, entrepreneurs and members of the African diaspora”.

The displacement of Kamala Harris comes following a United States-Africa summit held in Washington at the end of 2022. The United States does not hide its ambition to carve out a place of choice on the continent, alongside China. .

The head of American diplomacy, Antony Blinken, should visit Ethiopia and Niger from March 15. He was already in South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda in August 2022.
