The Libyan Parliament based in eastern Libya voted on Tuesday (May 16th) in favor of the suspension of its Prime Minister whom it had appointed in 2021, Fathi Bashagha, during a closed meeting held in Benghazi, while announcing the opening of an investigation against him.

« The Chamber of Deputies voted unanimously to suspend Prime Minister Fathi Bachagha and to open an investigation against him, » said Chamber spokesman Abdallah Bliheq, without giving reasons. of this suspension.

Pending the conclusions of the investigation, the Minister of Finance, Oussama Hamad, is charged by the Chamber with managing the affairs of the Primature, specified the spokesman.

Recall that this chief executive was appointed with the aim of trying to put an end to the functions of Prime Minister Abdelhamid Dbeibah, whose office is based in Tripoli, the Libyan capital, and who is supported by the United Nations.

Some sources suggest that Bashagha’s dismissal would be due to the fact that he could not dislodge Dbeibah, while others evoke meager performances and acts of corruption.

Since Bashagha’s appointment, Libya has operated with two ministers. This country is still struggling to emerge from the crisis following the fall of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011, despite the initiatives of the UN.
