Tunisian Head of State Kais Saied thanked his head of government, Najla Bouden, whom he replaced on Wednesday August 2 by Ahmed Hachani, a former executive in the Ministry of Finance and at the Central Bank.

After a few dismissals of the ministers of the Bouden government, it was her turn to be dismissed from office. Appointed in September 2021, she was the first woman to hold the post of Prime Minister in Tunisia and in the Arab world. The reasons for his removal were not specified.

On the occasion of the swearing in of the new Prime Minister, the Head of State indicated, among other things to his attention, that there are “great challenges” to be met “with determination and will”.

The change of the head of government comes in a context where Tunisia is facing an economic crisis, but is also criticized for its management of the migration issue. Several sub-Saharan migrants have been expelled from the country in recent times; some, including women and children, abandoned in the middle of the desert.
