South African opposition calls for the resignation of President Cyrille Ramaphosa

The opposition in South Africa has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to leave office, following the complaint filed against him relating to the theft of $ 4 million from his farm which he did not report to the police.

The initiative comes from Julius Malema’s Economic Freedom Fighters Party. The latter said that “Cyril Ramaphosa owns parts of game farms which are used for illicit financial flows, including money laundering”.

According to him, “it is not surprising that $60 million in banknotes were stolen from the property of Cyril Ramaphosa and were not reported to the South African police service, because the criminals do not not report the theft of the fruit of their crime ».

But the head of state, who reacted to the complaint against him, said he informed his head of the security service, and that it was the latter who failed to contact the police department concerned. While denying criminal conduct, he expressed his willingness to cooperate with investigators.

If justice has been seized in recent days by a former head of South African intelligence, Arthur Fraser, the case dates back to February 2020. Fraser criticizes the head of state for the fact that he “hid this crime” to the police and the tax authorities, and “paid the culprits for their silence”; which constitutes, in his words, an “obstruct of justice”.

Will Ramaphosa follow in the footsteps of his predecessor Jacob Zuma who was forced to resign over corruption charges? This is what Julius Malema probably wants. “Dear South Africans, we gave Cyril Ramaphosa a chance to prove himself, he failed miserably. We’re going to treat it like we did Zuma. He must leave office with immediate effect, because he did not respect his oath”, he also declared.
