Sudan announced on Monday, June 27, its intention to recall its ambassador to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where seven of its soldiers were allegedly executed, according to him, by the Ethiopian army.

« In an act that contravenes all conventions of war and international law, the Ethiopian army executed seven Sudanese soldiers and one citizen, » said the Sudanese army, which promised to retaliate, stating that « this act treacherous would not pass”.

According to Sudanese diplomacy, the soldiers concerned were « kidnapped on June 22 in Sudanese territory and then taken to Ethiopia ». Some Sudanese sources refer to the border region of Al-Fashaga, in Gedaref State, from where the victims were allegedly captured.

Al-Fashaga is a fertile land which the two countries are fighting over. In mid-December 2021, the Sudanese army tried to reconquer the agricultural lands occupied by Ethiopians for several years.

As if to denounce the assassination of the soldiers, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs intends to « immediately recall its ambassador to Ethiopia and summon the Ethiopian ambassador to Khartoum to inform him of the Sudanese condemnation of this inhuman act ».

More than that, Khartoum is planning to lodge a complaint with the UN Security Council as well as at the level of regional organizations.
