Le Gabon célèbre à Laâyoune le 61è anniversaire de son indépendance

After a first experience in 2021 in Laayoune, in southern Morocco, the Gabonese embassy in Rabat has decided to celebrate, again this year 2022, the anniversary of Gabon’s independence in the same city.

The celebration of the 62nd anniversary of Gabon’s independence took place on August 16 and 17 in Laâyoune, in the presence of many personalities from both countries.

The meeting was an opportunity to salute the excellent relations between Rabat and Libreville, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI and President Ali Bongo, and above all to highlight Gabon’s unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara provinces.

In his speech held Wednesday, August 17 at the Laayoune Convention Center, the Gabonese ambassador, Minko Mi Nseme Sylver Aboubacar, indicated that « coming to celebrate our national holiday here in Laayoune is a strong act for us and for our Moroccan brothers ».

He also suggested that the initiative to hold these festivities in Laayoune is part of the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of relations between Gabon and Morocco.

Tuesday was reserved for artistic performances, sports activities and city tours.

Laayoune is the capital of the provinces of the Moroccan Sahara. Gabon opened its consulate general there in January 2020.
