As part of the continuation of its operations to hunt gold miners, the Malian government welcomed, on Tuesday, the arrest of five foreign clandestine gold miners.
They were arrested on September 11 at an illegal site in Kourouma, in the commune of Faléa, in the Kayes region. The operation was carried out by agents of the National Directorate of Geology and Mines (DNGM), in collaboration with the Defense and Security Forces. The site was dismantled and 4 diggers and a pick-up were seized.
The same agents had to dismantle, this Tuesday, September 13, a clandestine mine in Dogofri, in the commune of Kéniéba; a clandestine gold digger was arrested and two backhoes seized.
According to the authorities, « the people arrested as well as the equipment seized have been made available to the justice system of the localities concerned ».
On February 14, the security services, operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Water, had seized 22 Chinese and seized important equipment, as part of a crusade against illegal gold panning and the dredging of waterways.
The authorities are implementing several measures to put an end to illegal gold mining, but this practice, which contributes to the degradation of the environment, still attracts followers.
