The Togolese government on Tuesday adopted a project to create a national center for cinema and moving images (CNCIA), a year after the promulgation of the law on the Cinema and Moving Image Code, a legislative and regulatory framework for the 7th art.

“The establishment of this structure will, among other things, make it possible to ensure, with efficiency and effectiveness, the control of the implementation of the legislative and regulatory measures applicable to the cinematographic and audiovisual professions, to contribute to the improvement of access to partnerships public-private and funding from international organizations, strengthen the professionalization of this sector and have real film industries likely to create jobs and generate wealth in our country, « says the press release published at the from the Council.

The new structure will replace the former National Cinema Directorate. Its implementation should make it possible to further professionalize the sector of the Togolese 7th art, it is specified.

According to government spokesperson Akodah Ayewouadan, the ambition behind all actions is to “allow Togolese cinema to reach a new milestone”.

From September 6 to 10, Lomé hosted the sixth edition of National Cinema Week, focused on “Support for the creation and production of the cinematographic and audiovisual industry” in the country.

“It is an opportunity to promote the creative genius of our compatriots in the field of cinematography and to reward the best of these works as well as the major players in the sector”, had then indicated the Minister of Culture, Gbenyo Lamadokou.
