The head of Burundian diplomacy, Albert Shingiro, on an official visit to Morocco from October 16 to 21, 2022, reaffirmed on Wednesday « the attachment of the Republic of Burundi to the principle of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco,” according to a joint statement released after talks between Shingiro and Nasser Bourita, his Moroccan counterpart.
« The Republic of Burundi considers the Autonomy Initiative in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council, as the basis for achieving a lasting, pragmatic and realistic solution based on compromise », continues the document which specifies that both sides pledged to support each other on major issues concerning their core interests.
Still according to the same source, the Burundian minister also reaffirmed his country’s support for the efforts of the UN Secretary General and his Personal Envoy to relaunch the political process on the basis of the Resolutions of the UN Security Council. UN.
During their talks, the two Ministers hailed the exemplary character that marks the relations between the two countries and reaffirmed their commitment to do everything possible to develop, intensify and diversify their cooperation in several areas, in accordance with the political will expressed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency President Evariste Ndayishimiye.
Nasser Bourita hailed the laudable strong initiatives of the Burundian leader, aimed at injecting a new reform impetus for the development and emergence of the Republic of Burundi, and reiterated the firm will of the Kingdom of Morocco to share its know-how and its expertise in socio-economic, human and cultural development.
Shingiro and Nasser Bourita stressed the important role that the Moroccan and Burundian private sectors should play in boosting cooperation relations, given the mutually beneficial economic potential available to the two countries. In this regard, they called on economic operators and investors of the two countries to seize the opportunities offered in the various economic sectors.
They also underlined their interest in setting up ambitious and fruitful cooperation in economic sectors such as: agriculture, energy, vocational training, infrastructure, health, public finance and mining. .
The two parties also stressed the need to strengthen political dialogue between the two countries in order to further boost bilateral relations. To this end, they agreed on the importance of promoting regular political consultations between the two countries on bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest.
In this sense, the two ministers signed two agreements, the first establishing the Joint Cooperation Commission, and the Agreement on the abolition of visas for holders of diplomatic, service and special passports.
The head of Burundian diplomacy expressed to Nasser Bourita the heartfelt thanks of the Burundian delegation for the warm welcome and African hospitality they received during their stay in Morocco.
