A large crowd of Moroccans mobilized on Tuesday to welcome to Rabat, the capital, the national football team which won fourth place in the football world cup which took place from November 21 to December 18, 2022 in Qatar.
The streets linking the Rabat-salé airport to the Royal Palace of Rabat, through which the national team bus was to pass, were stormed by citizens who came to congratulate the players, dressed in national team jerseys.
In turn, these athletes, brandishing the Moroccan flag, greeted their compatriots along the way, under the protection provided by thousands of police officers and members of the security forces allocated by the Rabat security prefecture.
The Atlas lions went directly to the Royal Palace in Rabat where they were expected. They were welcomed by King Mohammed VI, along with their mothers.
The Moroccan team has become the first African team to play in the FIFA World Cup semi-final. It is also now the third team, outside Europe and South America, to qualify for the semi-finals of the World Cup, after the United States in 1930 and South Korea in 2002.
The president of the Moroccan Federation, the coach Walid Regragui and the players were decorated by King Mohammed VI, for their « historic feat ».
