The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) announced on Tuesday the dismantling of a spy network in Kinshasa by the security services, and the arrest of four alleged spies.

Among these spies are two Rwandans, a Congolese soldier and a fourth man who also claims to be Congolese. The two Rwandans, including an element of the Rwandan Defense Force (RDF), were acting under the cover of a development NGO called « African Health Development Organization » (AHDO).

The spies had managed to infiltrate some army officers, political figures, as well as economic operators and members of civil society, according to Kinshasa.

The investigators would have discovered, from the exploitation of the encrypted telephone of the Rwandan soldier, that the latter had access to the various strategic sites of the capital, in complicity with certain general and senior officers of the Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC).

These Rwandans would also have acquired a significant land holding in the perimeter of the Ndjili international airport in Kinshasa and the Kibomango military base, in such a way as to easily prepare an attack.

The identities of the four men were revealed by the Deputy Minister of the Interior who spoke on National Television, alongside the Spokespersons of the Army and the Police.

The DRC Security Services are continuing their investigations to catch the other accomplices, especially since the NGO AHDO is also active in other provinces of the country (Kwango, Kwilu, Kasai, North Kivu and South Kivu) .

The authorities have called on the Congolese population to be vigilant and to defend the homeland, while Rwanda is accused of attacking the DRC through the M23 rebellion which has been clashing for several months with the FARDC in East of the country.
