The government of Burkina Faso, meeting on Wednesday in the Council of Ministers, terminated Seydou Sinka’s functions with the UN, without communicating the reasons for this measure.
« Sir. Seydou Sinka, Ambassador, relieved of his duties as Ambassador Permanent Representative of Burkina Faso to the United Nations in New York”, states the report of the Council.
Sinka, 53, had held this position since September 2021. His forced departure comes less than a month after the expulsion from Burkina of the resident coordinator of the United Nations system in Burkina Faso, Italian Barbara Manzi. The latter was declared “persona non grata”, on December 23, for her remarks concerning the security context in Burkina.
The government has not justified the release of Sinka, who has held several other important positions in the past, including that of Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the Embassy of Burkina Faso in Washington (November 2014-March 2018).
