Youth is one of the categories of actors present at the fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) which is being held from March 5 to 9 in Doha, Qatar.

They are dozens of young delegates, representing some 226 million young people from the 46 Least Developed Countries (LDCs), who took center stage on Tuesday 7 March by sharing their convictions and their actions; just as they were the subject of attention from high authorities present.

During an intergenerational dialogue at LDC5, the United Nations High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS), Rabab Fatima, warned that “if young people are not truly included in our work, the goals we have set ourselves in the Doha Program of Action (DPoA) and the 2030 Agenda will not be achieved”.

Also Secretary General of the LDC5 Conference, Rabab Fatima stressed the need to « listen to the voices of young people and include them in the decision-making process and in the follow-up actions », believing that « they are the ones who will be the most affected by the results.

“Our ambition for this conference has always been to bring together all parts of society – all decision-makers, the private sector, young people, civil society organizations and all other stakeholders – to ensure that no voice is ignored, no idea untested, no generation left behind,” she said.

This intergenerational dialogue brought together young people from LDCs, world leaders, heads of state and government, policymakers, senior UN officials and high-ranking diplomats.

The world’s least developed countries are in a race to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Currently, 46 countries, including many African countries, are on the list of LDCs, which need support from advanced countries .
