The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Hawa Ahmed Youssouf, urged, on Wednesday 22 March, the various Malagasy political actors to do everything possible to guarantee peaceful elections, in order to preserve peace and political stability in the country.

“For four years, Madagascar has regained a certain political stability. We must continue in this direction and organize peaceful elections accepted by all », she encouraged, after a meeting with the Malagasy President Andry Rajoelina, marking the end of his nine-year mandate in the country.

The Special Representative of the African Union is convinced that « Madagascar can move forward with political stability » and asks « everyone to contribute » since it is the « guarantor of the country’s sustainable development ».

« Madagascar has no more reason to go back, » she continued, while promising that the AU « will support the Malagasy people and the Malagasy government so that things can happen in serenity and in social cohesion.

Andry Rajoelina thanked Hawa Ahmed Youssouf for the AU’s support and contribution to Madagascar’s development process.
