The Council of Ministers in Côte d’Ivoire adopted, on Wednesday in Abidjan, a decree ratifying the Council of Europe Convention on the counterfeiting of medical products and similar crimes involving threats to public health, approved on October 28, 2011 in Moscow (Russia).
This convention, called the « MedicCrime Convention », is the very first international instrument to clearly criminalize the manufacture, supply and trafficking of counterfeit medical products as well as the unauthorized manufacture and supply of medical products and the placing on the market of medical devices that do not meet the compliance requirements, explains the press release published after the meeting.
The ratification of this convention, maintains the Ivorian government, will make it possible to strengthen, together with the other signatory States, national and international coordination measures, preventive measures, as well as measures for the protection of victims and witnesses, so as to fight effectively against the scourge of counterfeit medical products, which seriously threatens public health.
