The 18th edition of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Mining Week, or DRC mining week, opened this Wednesday, June 14 in Lubumbashi (South-East) and will last until June 16.
This is an annual event that brings together different operators in the mining sector and which constitutes a real framework for exchanges and negotiations.
The 2023 edition welcomes around 120 exhibitors from many African and European countries, as well as, for the first time, from China. Chinese companies represent more than 70% of mining operators in this Central African country. As for visitors, more than five thousand are expected there.
According to the Congolese Minister of Mines, Antoinette Nsamba Kalambayi, “this event, which is held annually, helps to strengthen the visibility of the mining sector in the DRC and to present its mining potential to attract more investors. It also allows all players in the mining sector to reflect and discuss the problems that arise in this sector with a view to proposing appropriate solutions”.
During the opening ceremony, she stressed that « the Congolese economy remains very dependent on the mining sector, which remains the main driver of growth and contributes significantly to the state budget ».
This Thursday, the American development agency (USAID), through its director in the DRC present on the scene, said it was ready to help the DRC to promote its mining sector, including that of minerals considered strategic.
