The UN Mission in Mali (Minusma) gave Thursday a new assessment of 11 injured, including 2 serious following the overturning of its helicopter by strong winds on the tarmac of the airport of Gao, in the north of Mali.

“11 injuries now confirmed, including 2 in critical condition and 9 slightly. Our hospital provides them with medical care. We send them our best wishes for recovery,” the mission said on its Twitter account.

The incident, which occurred a few hours earlier, took place after the aircraft had landed. « This is not a crash », the crew members and passengers « all left the aircraft and are receiving medical attention. No fire reported,” Minusma said in a previous tweet.

The Minusma was created by resolution 2100 of the Security Council, of April 25, 2013, to support the political process in this country, according to its site.

A year later, the Council decided to focus the Mission’s mandate on priority tasks such as security, stabilization and protection of civilians, support for national political dialogue and national reconciliation, as well as support for the restoration of State authority throughout the country, the reconstruction of the Malian security sector, the promotion and protection of human rights, and humanitarian aid.
