The Kingdom of Morocco is pleased to have been brilliantly re-elected, in the person of Mr. Mohammed Charef, as a member of the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers (CMW), for the period 2024-2027, relates a statement published on the website of the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Morocco ranked at the head of all the candidates in the running, during the elections held this Tuesday, June 27, 2023 in New York, on the occasion of the 11th Meeting of States Parties to the Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All migrant workers and members of their families.
« This is a veritable plebiscite for the Moroccan candidate ahead of those of countries with an aggressive and inhumane immigration policy », underlines the press release which adds that « this election, which has experienced intense competition, confirms the credibility and the confidence that Morocco enjoys in the field of migration management, under the High Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist him, African Union Champion on Migration”.
The same source explains that “this election reflects the confidence enjoyed by the Kingdom at the international level and the recognition of its role for a humanist, responsible and united management of migration. This also constitutes a consecration of the efforts of the Kingdom at the national level through the implementation of the National Strategy for Immigration and Asylum”.
And to recall, the Kingdom, which hosted in 2018 the Conference that adopted the Marrakech Pact on safe, orderly and regular migration, also hosts the African Union Migration Observatory.
In addition, the press release indicates that « the brilliant re-election of Morocco confirms the relevance of the strategy implemented, in accordance with the High Royal Guidelines, for the strengthening of its presence within international organizations and the various Committees and Bodies of Human Rights Treaties of Man”.
Morocco believes that, through this new success, it is now present in almost all Treaty Bodies, which represents international recognition for Moroccan expertise in the protection and protection of human rights.
“This new electoral consecration was made possible thanks to the mobilization of the entire diplomatic apparatus”, supports the text.
Mr. Mohammed CHAREF, member of the National Human Rights Council and university professor, is a recognized expert in the field of the management of migratory flows and mobility.
The Committee for the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers (CMW) is made up of fourteen experts, whose mandate is to monitor the implementation of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.
