US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken announced to reporters on Thursday more than $380 million in additional US humanitarian aid for Africa.
In a statement, the U.S. official said this envelope brings « over $4 billion in humanitarian assistance this fiscal year to meet the needs of refugees, internally displaced persons, and people affected by conflicts and crises on the African continent”.
“Our assistance provides urgent and life-saving support, including shelter, clean water, sanitation and hygiene, health care and psychosocial and mental health services, education and protection for vulnerable people such as children, survivors of gender-based violence and people with specific needs,” he also said.
Blinken also promised that his country will continue « to play a leading role in responding to humanitarian needs both on the African continent and around the world ».
