The former Ivorian president, Laurent Gbagbo, announced on Tuesday, August 22, his readiness to be a presidential candidate in 2025, at the request of his political party, the African Peoples’ Party-Côte d’Ivoire (PPA- THIS).

« If my comrades believe that there is no one better than me for the upcoming deadlines, then we will set off to work, » he said, specifying all the same that being president « n’ is more of an obsession » for him.

This personality who led Côte d’Ivoire from 2000 to 2011, spoke at a press conference during which he addressed some national and regional issues.

Among other things, he returned to his removal from the electoral lists, decided on the fact that he remains under the sentence by the Ivorian justice, to 20 years in prison for the « robbery » of the Central Bank of the States of West Africa (BCEAO) during the post-electoral crisis of 2010-2011. If he was pardoned by President Alassane Ouattara, and not granted amnesty, he still remains deprived of his civic rights.

While denouncing an « injustice », since he is not « a thief or a robber », Gbagbo claimed his innocence in this affair and informed that he will ask, after the regional and municipal elections of September 2, his re-registration on the electoral list.
