Sudanese authorities on Monday (April 6) approved a bill to repeal the boycott of Israel in force since 1958, according to an official statement that said the decision was taken at a cabinet meeting.

“The Cabinet has approved a bill, applicable for the year 2021, repealing the boycott of Israel law dating from 1958,” the document states.

Sudan also stressed its “firm position” which supports the existence of two states: the Palestinian state and the Jewish state.

The 1958 law prohibits “any person from personally entering into or negotiating any agreement of any kind with entities or persons residing in Israel or with entities or persons known to be of Israeli nationality or working for it. account of the Hebrew state ”.

The government’s move follows the normalization of diplomatic relations between Sudan and Israel at the end of 2020 under the aegis of Washington. However, the repeal bill must be approved by the highest authority in the country, the Sovereignty Council, to have the force of law.
