The prefect of Dakar in Senegal installed, Thursday, the new mayor of the capital, Barthélémy Dias, on the occasion of a ceremony organized at the town hall of the capital, in the presence of several political figures both from the regime in power than in the opposition.
“I declare you officially installed in your duties as mayor,” he said in passing, at the waist of Dias, a scarf in the colors of Senegal.
After his installation, the new mayor gave a speech in which he supported collective management in the interest of Dakar residents. He addressed himself first to the state. “I invite the State to a sincere collaboration in order to deepen governance and local democracy for great achievements for the benefit of the people of Dakar”, declared the candidate of the opposition coalition Yewwi Askan Wi and the former mayor of the commune of Mermoz Sacré Coeur.
Just as he called for “collaboration in several sectors, particularly in education”, adding that “I insist on our desire to bring together all the components”.
He assured that he is “not at the head of the town hall in a position of combat against the institutions of the State”. “On the other hand, I will oppose by all means any attempt that opponents of the free administration of local authorities could perpetuate,” he continued.
