Morocco and Israel are strengthening and expanding their cooperation in various fields. After cooperation on the diplomatic and military levels, it is now time for the economic aspects.
The two countries signed today a trade and investment cooperation agreement, during the visit of the Israeli Minister of Economy, Orna Barbivai, to Morocco.
The objectives pursued by this agreement are diverse, according to statements made by Barbivai and his Moroccan counterpart, Nadia Fettah.
It is a question of quadrupling “very quickly”, the annual trade volume between the two countries, to reach 500 million dollars of exchanges against 131 million dollars currently; to facilitate exchanges and investments in many fields (aerospace, automotive, agri-food, textile, pharmaceutical industries, etc.).
The creation of qualified industrial zones in Morocco where companies from both countries will operate; the establishment of bilateral cooperation in the areas of standardization and regulation, or even R&D, are some of the other objectives pursued.
As a reminder, Morocco and Israel relaunched their relations in December 2020. The Israeli minister, who arrived in Morocco on Sunday, will spend four days in the Kingdom. In his agenda, it is planned, among other things, visits to Israeli textile and agricultural companies established on Moroccan territory, specifically in Casablanca and Marrakech.
