The Republic of Congo and Rwanda signed several cooperation agreements on Tuesday, April 12, during the three-day state visit (from April 11 to 13) of Rwandan President Paul Kagame to Brazzaville.

The Congolese Minister of International Cooperation and Promotion of Public-Private Partnership, Denis Christel Sassou Nguesso, and the Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Vincent Biruta, initialed the economic partnership framework agreements for the promotion and protection of investments, a memorandum of understanding and cooperation in the fields of small and medium-sized enterprises and crafts, as well as a cultural and artistic cooperation agreement.

Other agreements concern the concession agreement for the Malakou industrial and commercial park between the Republic of Congo and “Crystal Ventures Ltd” and the memorandum of understanding between the Republic of Congo and the investment fund “Crystal ventures Ltd”, relating to the cultivation of castor bean in the Congo. Brazzaville has also signed an agreement with the company “Macefield Ventures Congo Holding S.A.S.U”, relating to the design, construction and operation of the dry port of Dolisie, in the department of Niari (west).

On Twitter, the Congolese presidency indicated that “the legal instruments concluded between Congo and Rwanda, this April 12, concern the following areas: agriculture, infrastructure, SMEs and crafts, culture and arts, trade and industry, mines and geology, civic education and qualifying training”.

Believing that the level of their cooperation is not up to their expectations, the two parties have agreed on “broadening and deepening the scope of cooperation”, according to a joint press release. The governments of the two countries have been instructed to urgently develop action plans necessary for the implementation of the signed agreements.

Regional and sub-regional issues were also on the agenda of discussions between the two heads of state.
