A joint anti-terrorist operation between the armed forces of Niger and those of Burkina Faso, called Taanli 3 and carried out from April 2 to 25, made it possible to neutralize a hundred terrorists and arrest around forty suspects.

The operation took place at the border between the two countries. The Joint Command Post (PCC) of the Taanli 3 joint operation was based in Dori, in the northeast of Burkina.

Nigerien and Burkinabè soldiers destroyed two logistics bases and dismantled a terrorist base. Weapons and ammunition, dozens of fuel drums, vehicles, prohibited products and equipment for the manufacture of explosive devices were also seized or destroyed.

Each country mobilized both human and material resources for Taanli3 which was, among other things, to allow the security of the populations of the area of operation and their property.

In addition to the military actions carried out against armed groups, the military also deployed in favor of civilians, by promoting the supply of food to the populations and by providing medical care. Nearly 200 tons of food (cereals, sugar, oil, salt, etc.) in total were able to be delivered during the operation. The access roads to certain villages have been freed up to the great satisfaction of the inhabitants.

The Chiefs of Staff of the two countries praised the professionalism of the officers as well as the results obtained in the field. Two soldiers were killed during the operation and two others injured.

Niger and Burkina Faso had decided to pool their efforts to deal with the terrorist threat. The second phase of Operation Taanli (which means “Alliance” in the Gulmatchema language) took place from November 25 to December 09, 2021, with the results of a hundred terrorists neutralized and weapons recovered.
