Two operations carried out on Monday, May 9 in the South-West and North-West regions of Burkina Faso, made it possible to neutralize at least 50 terrorists, the army announced in a press release.

About the first operation, the document of the staff of the armies indicates that “the Garsi unit (Groupe d’Action Rapide de Surveillance et d’Intervention) of Barani reacted vigorously to an ambush tense by several tens of ‘individuals a few kilometers from the locality of Barakuy’, located in the Boucle du Mouhoun region (north-west).

And to add, “the unit, which quickly took over, routed the attackers, neutralizing at least 40 terrorists. Combat equipment was also recovered following the search after the attack and supported by the Air Force. The army deplores “a few light injuries” in its ranks, but no human loss has been recorded.

The second operation concerns a unit of the 22nd Commando Infantry Regiment of Gaoua which “led an offensive action at the exit of Djigoué (province of Poni, South-West region)”, resulted in the death of 10 terrorists, informs the ‘Staff. The action was carried out in coordination with the volunteers for the defense of the homeland (VDP) of the area, specifies the army.

The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces welcomed these operations which would have dealt a blow to terrorist groups. Burkina has been facing recurrent attacks in recent times, with civilian and military deaths on display. The terrorists challenge the leader of the ruling military junta, which has made security one of its priorities.
