The NERE MINING Group announced with “regret”, this Thursday, June 09, an attack on its mine of Riverstone Karma SA located in the North region, resulting in two deaths.
“We regret to inform you that the mine of Riverstone Karma SA, of the Néré Mining Group was the target of a terrorist attack, perpetrated this day June 9, 2022, at dawn by unidentified armed men”, declares his statement.
The company assures that the “vigorous reaction of the security elements of the mine and the security defense forces, made it possible to repel the attack”, but deplores the death of two people including an employee of the mine and a soldier of the 12 °th Commando infantry regiment, based in Ouahigouya.
Riverstone Karma SA also informs that, faced with the emergency, a crisis unit was immediately set up to monitor and assess the evolution of the situation on the ground. Staff have been evacuated from the site and psychological monitoring is in place to support workers.
In the meantime, the management of Riverstone Karma SA has decided to suspend its operations to concentrate its efforts on securing all employees, our subcontractors and the site.
