An official note from the tourism and crafts department of the wilaya of Bouira in Algeria, ordering travel agencies operating in the country to break all working relations with Spain, has been around social networks since Sunday June 19.
“In accordance with the decisions of the high authorities of the State to suspend the treaty of friendship, good neighborliness and cooperation with Spain, you are asked to immediately suspend all working relations with this country”, announces the text.
But according to the www.visa-algerie.com, an official of this department said that the note was “cancelled”. “This note should not be taken into account. We did publish it, but it was taken down. An error has occurred. We don’t ask travel agencies for anything. The note has been cancelled, ”the executive would have said.
This confusion informs, in more than one way, the malaise of Algiers since Madrid decided, last March, to openly support the Moroccan plan for the autonomy of the Sahara.
Several announcements have already been made by Algeria in retaliation against Spain. The latest, made on June 8, concern the immediate suspension of the friendship treaty concluded with Madrid and the freezing of external operations with Spain, from June 9, announced by the Algerian Association of Banks and Financial Institutions.
