The Moroccan OCP Foundation provides support of 2 million euros for the preservation of biodiversity in Senegal

The Senegalese Agency for Reforestation and the Great Green Wall (ASERGMV) will benefit from financial support of the order of 2 million euros from the Foundation of the Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP), in under an agreement signed between the two parties this Monday, June 27 in Dakar, the Senegalese capital.

The envelope is intended for the preservation of biodiversity in this West African country. More specifically, the agreement concerns support for community agricultural development and capacity building for the Senegalese Agency, to support and supervise projects aimed at regenerating local biodiversity.

It is expected that soil and water analysis laboratories will be used. Also, executives will be trained on issues relating to the climate and the environment; and introduced to carbon certification. The agreement also provides that researchers from the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, Senegalese research institutes and ASERGMV can collaborate for the design of research and development projects.

According to the SG of the Foundation, Abdelhadi Sohib, “projects will begin soon on the challenges and opportunities offered by the Great Green Wall, which is a central project for Senegal and the continent, but also for the whole of the planet”.

Speaking of the signing of the agreement, Sohib spoke of “a great day, a consecration of joint work with the Agency and a very committed team”.

The OCP Maroc group is the leading exporter of crude phosphate, phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilizers in the world. It operates in mining, fertilizer production and research and innovation activities.
