The state visit of the Ivorian President, Alassane Ouattara, to South Africa from July 20 to 23, for the strengthening of multi-sector bilateral cooperation, was completed with the signing of six new bilateral agreements in Pretoria.
These agreements, initialed by Ouattara and his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, affect the areas of social development and social inclusion, economic cooperation, promotion of trade and investment, as well as transport.
They come less than a year after those signed in Abidjan in December 2021, on the occasion of Cyril Ramaphosa’s three-day state visit. The areas covered by these agreements are, among others, Defence, Agriculture, Air Services, Promotion of Youth, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), Energy, Mining, geology and hydrocarbons, employment, women’s empowerment and gender equality.
The particularity of these State visits is that they are scheduled at the time of the South Africa-Côte d’Ivoire Business Forum in the host country.
The two Heads of State thus took part, on Friday July 22 in Pretoria, in this meeting for economic purposes, this year, whose work revolved around the theme “Accelerating trade and investment between South Africa and Côte d’Ivoire through strengthened partnerships”. The Forum was an opportunity to identify investment opportunities in both countries.
Ramaphosa and Ouattara welcomed the already exemplary cooperation between their countries and pleaded for its strengthening at different levels. The South African leader elevated his counterpart to the Order of South Africa, the country’s highest honor, as a sign of fraternity and the excellence of Ivorian-South African relations.
