The “Champion of Industrialization” award in Africa awarded to Malagasy President Andry Rajoelina by UNIDO

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) presented, Friday, August 12, the prize of the Champion of Industrialization in Africa to the Malagasy President, Andry Rajoelina, on the occasion of a ceremony organized for this purpose in Vienna, capital of Austria.

In a statement, the Malagasy presidency said that Rajoelina received this trophy because of “his determination and his will to bring development through the promotion of industry”.

UNIDO Director General Gerd Müller, who presented the award to Rajoelina, told the latter that “as a champion of industrialization, Africa is counting on you for recovery and development”, after having praised his leadership and the assets of the Big Island in terms of natural resources.

The industrialization of Madagascar is one of the promises of Andry Rajoelina and, since his accession to power three years ago, 107 industrial activities have been set up, he informed.

These projects include the Pharmalagasy plant for the production of medicines, the food supplement production unit called Nutrisud and the recently inaugurated sugar factory.

The president also mentioned the implementation of the “One district, one factory” (ODOF) project, which consists of setting up a factory in each district.

Food self-sufficiency is also part of the ambitions of the Malagasy president who initiates various strategies to achieve this.
