Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is hosting, from Monday 3 to Wednesday 5 October, the preparatory work for the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change ( PRECOP27).
The works were launched by the Congolese Prime Minister, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde. “I wish success to the exchanges that will take place on the items on the agenda, in particular the issues of adaptation to the impacts of climate change relating to the management of greenhouse gas emissions, climate finance and water loss”, he underlined.
More than 64 ministers responsible for environmental and climate issues, from various countries around the world, are expected to take part in this meeting organized by the DRC and Egypt. The US Embassy in the DRC announced in a press release the participation of the US President’s Special Envoy for the Climate, John Kerry, indicating that his trip “will provide an opportunity to dialogue on climate cooperation before the COP27 is held”. .
The meeting will be, indeed, during these three days of work, an opportunity for the participants, to bring out orientations on the various themes planned on the agenda of the COP27 which will take place in Sharm El-Sheikh, in Egypt, next month.
An international scientific conference was also organized upstream, from September 05 to 07, 2022 in Yangambi, DRC, presented as a moment of reflection and sharing around the theme “Contribution of the forests of the Congo Basin and other tropical basins of the planet in the fight against climate change”.
