The new President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, clearly requested, on Friday October 7, the support of the diplomatic corps and the international and inter-African organizations present in the country, during a reception organized for them, announces a press release from the Communication Department of the Presidency of the Republic.
During the “exchange meeting”, the Head of State presented to all the participants the current situation in Burkina and the reasons for the change at the head of the State. Traoré overthrew, in fact, on September 30, the regime of Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba who, too, had seized power by force at the beginning of this year.
“From January 24 to today, the security climate has deteriorated quite a bit, as has the socio-political climate,” said the new president of the Patriotic Movement for Safeguarding and Restoration, at the head of the country.
He explained that “the meaning of the fight led is to give more peace of mind to our populations. The events of September 30, 2022 are part of the dynamic of working to restore security in the areas under control, to accelerate the fight against terrorism and to allow populations to have a peaceful life. “It’s just to save our homeland, our lands, our people,” he insisted.
While assuring that “the work has already begun on the ground”, he indicated to his interlocutors that “we expect the support of all (…). We ask for your support”.
The press release affirms that the representatives of the diplomatic corps and of international and inter-African organizations have assured their availability to accompany Burkina Faso to meet the current challenges, and reaffirmed their support for the new authorities. Their major concern, they say, is to see the return of security, peace in the country as well as social and inter-community cohesion.
“The Head of State thanked the diplomatic corps and the international and inter-African organizations for the support displayed. He reassured them that their concerns had been taken into account,” the statement concluded.
