The Heads of Arab States rejected “foreign interference in all its forms in the internal affairs of Arab countries”, on the occasion of the 31st session of the Arab Summit in Algiers held from 1 to 02 November.

This position is underlined in the “Declaration of Algiers” which sanctioned the summit. The participants in the work opted for the “principle of Arab solutions to Arab problems”, through “the strengthening of the role of the League of Arab States in the prevention and resolution of crises by peaceful means”.

The Algiers Declaration also militates for the strengthening of joint Arab action, necessary, among other things, for the preservation of the unity of the Member States, for the resolution of the crises which are raging in certain Arab countries, and for the integrity of their territories.

Morocco celebrated, on November 06, the 47th anniversary of the Green March, a milestone in the contemporary history of this country which consisted of a long peaceful march of 300,000 Moroccans towards the South to liberate the Moroccan Sahara. then under Spanish occupation.

To secure its Sahara from the terrorist attacks of the Polisario, Morocco has erected a security belt of more than 2600 km which protects 80% of the recovered territory. He prepares to set up another belt to integrate and secure the other portion behind the security wall.

Since the 1970s, the Moroccan Sahara has opposed Rabat to the Sahrawi separatists of the Polisario Front who are supported, militarily, by Algiers.

The interference of Algeria in this file relating to the Sahara is recognized by the international community. The latest evidence is the new UN Security Council Resolution 2654 which calls for a political solution based on compromise, stressing “the importance for all parties concerned to broaden their positions in order to advance a solution “.

In this context, the text of the Council “strongly encourages Morocco, the Polisario front, Algeria and Mauritania, to dialogue with the personal envoy (…) in a spirit of realism and compromise” with a view to bringing the process.

The question of the Sahara proves to be a real test of the sincerity of the Algerian authorities in connection with the “Declaration of Algiers” and particularly its opposition to foreign interference.

Should it be recalled, the Sahara has always been a Moroccan territory with very strong allegiance and political ties with the rest of the country. The populations originating from its territories live in harmony in the Moroccan Saharan provinces where they participate and fully enjoy the same rights and prerogatives as the other Moroccans of the other provinces of northern Morocco.

Since 1956, this territory has been the subject of exclusive recourse by Morocco, which is asking for its liberation and its attachment to its mother country, the Kingdom of Morocco. More and more countries around the world are recognizing Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara. Nearly thirty countries have opened diplomatic representations in the southern provinces, 16 in Dakhla and 12 others in Laayoune.
