The delegation of the presidency of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), present in the 3rd round of the Nairobi (Kenya) process for peace in the east of the DRC, temporarily suspended work on Thursday, denouncing the presence of some suspicious participants.
“It was noted among the participants, people without mandate, quality and title having obtained accreditations. And yet, the lists of participants according to the organizations (Presidency, armed groups, community leaders and civil society) were well established and validated several weeks before the start of the work. These people not otherwise identified were transported to Nairobi by uncontrolled means, ”says a press release from the communication services to the DRC presidency.
“The presidential team was also intrigued by a series of attitudes and facts on the part of the technical teams responsible for translation, sound recording and other filming. Verification made, this material belongs to a structure of a neighboring country not concerned by the talks between Congolese”, continues the text.
The suspected equipment was to be dismantled and replaced by others coming from Kinshasa, according to the same source.
This Friday, the process, which started on November 28, was supposed to have entered its group work phase. As a reminder, the Kenyan capital hosted, for this meeting, in addition to representatives of the Congolese presidency, delegations of armed groups active in eastern DRC, civil society, and women’s associations, among others.
The process is led by former Kenyan leader Uhuru Kenyatta, as facilitator of the Community of East African States (EAC) to lead political negotiations to bring an end to the security crisis in the east. of the DRC.
