The Central African President, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, on Wednesday 7 December welcomed the approach taken by four armed groups, signatories of the Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in the Central African Republic (APPR-RCA), to proceed, the day before , to the complete dissolution of their armed movements; speaking of a “courageous act”.

“The courageous and patriotic act that our compatriots have just taken today, by formally declaring the complete dissolution of their respective groups, constitutes once again proof of their attachment to the APPR-RCA in order to meet the expectations of the daughters and sons of our nation who aspire only to peace and security, determining and necessary factors for the development of our country”, he declared.

The Head of State took the opportunity to reiterate his call on other leaders of armed groups to follow this example. The four groups concerned are the Patriotic Rally for the Renewal of the Central African Republic (RPRC), the Movement of Central African Liberators for Justice (MLCJ), the Union of Fundamental Republican Forces (UFRF) and the Union of Republican Forces (UFR). .

The APPR-RCA was initialed by the government and 14 armed groups active in the country in February 2019 in Bangui. This agreement was, in a way, the culmination of talks held in Khartoum (Sudan) under the aegis of, among others, the United Nations and the African Union.
