The World Bank and Mali initialed, Monday, December 12, financing agreements for two projects, worth approximately 302 million dollars, announces a press release from the Malian Ministry of Economy and Finance.

The agreements were signed by the Malian Minister of Economy and Finance, Alousseni Sanou, and the director of the World Bank, Clara De Souza.

The financing concerns on the one hand an Urban Resilience Project of the City of Bamako (PRUBA), at a cost of approximately 266 million dollars, which aims to improve access to urban waste treatment services , sanitation and drinking water supply, to increase resilience to flooding in certain vulnerable areas of the District of Bamako and targeted neighboring municipalities, and to strengthen urban management capacities.

The remaining $36 million will be dedicated to the country’s Drylands Agricultural Development Project, which aims to improve agricultural productivity and build the resilience of rural households living in targeted drylands. This is additional funding that will cover the costs of an emergency response to food insecurity, as well as those caused by inflationary pressures due in part to the crisis in Ukraine and insecurity, specifies the communicated.

“The signing of these two Financing Agreements is the materialization of the priorities of the highest authorities, in line with the Strategic Framework for Economic Recovery and Sustainable Development (CREDD) for the period 2019-2023”, declared Alousseni Sanou.
