The Ivorian government has provided two municipalities in greater Abidjan, in particular Abobo and Yopougon, with “made in Côte d’Ivoire” minibuses which will soon be put into service, with the aim of rejuvenating the vehicle fleet.

The Minister of Transport, Amadou Koné, proceeded, in fact, Thursday, January 27, to the delivery of 40 locally manufactured minibuses to urban transport companies based in these two municipalities.

These vehicles, assembled by the Société des transports abidjanais (SOTRA Industries) and its partner Iveco, having between 18 and 26 seats, are “exclusively intended for people who are already in transport to rejuvenate their car fleets and also for drivers exercising in transport,” said the minister.

These are carriers who have applied for the Road Transport Development Fund (FDTR), a fund of the State of Côte d’Ivoire for carriers, with a view to renewing their vehicle fleet.

The renewal of the vehicle fleet aims “to equip the road transport sector with new vehicles, thus contributing to the fight against air pollution and road safety, to cleaning up and professionalizing the sector, to improvement of the profitability of the transport activity and the creation of wealth”, still according to the Minister.

The “Made in Côte d’Ivoire” minibus project is part of the implementation of the National Road Safety Strategy. The municipalities of Abobo and Yopougon constitute its pilot phase

According to Amadou Koné, the government will soon also make 500 taxis available to young people in Côte d’Ivoire to enable them to have jobs and lead a decent life.
